Trucilla Macedo brings a sunny disposition and a professional attitude to the office every day as Sloan Group’s Director of First Impressions. We recently sat down with Trucilla to learn about the importance of her job as the frontline greeter, why she feels appreciated in her job, and how spending time in the wilderness keeps her feeling free.
When did you join Sloan Group?
I had the privilege of joining the Sloan Group team in May 2015.
I love your title. Tell us about your job as Director of First Impressions.
The playful title of Director of First Impressions illustrates Sloan Group’s recognition and appreciation of the role of the receptionist and their respect of employees like myself. Clients notice the title on the nameplate in reception and frequently comment on its simple, yet accurate description of the job. As a frontline greeter, hostess, and initial point of contact for clients and colleagues, it is an honour to meet people and assist them with their queries and concerns and direct them to receive personalized, professional services in a timely manner.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is having the opportunity to represent the firm and highlight the high caliber of the professionals under the Sloan Group umbrella and the standard of excellence that together we are proud to uphold. I enjoy making connections, building relationships, and at the end of the day, knowing that I have made a positive difference assisting our clients.
You have a lot of experience in educational, medical and legal settings. Tell me a little about your background before joining Sloan.
I have been fortunate to gain an array of experience in various administrative roles, all of which have taught me the value of a spirit of service. Regardless of the setting, clients need to know that they are being listened to and that their needs are being addressed. I try to show our clients that the organization they are dealing with is knowledgeable and will work diligently for them.
What do you like best about the work atmosphere at Sloan?
The collegial, friendly atmosphere at Sloan Group is what I enjoy the most. Colleagues are extremely approachable and willing to work together to get the job done well. My colleagues make the work day a delight and coming to work every day a joy.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests outside of the office that you’d like to share?
As a professionally trained Montessori teacher, I can’t help but promote the concept of exploration and the joy of life-long learning.
I see that you are a long-time scout program leader for the Federation of North American Explorers. Can you tell us a little about your wilderness group and what you love about the scouts?
A child at heart, I enjoy anything to do with music, mess and water. I suppose that is why the Federation of North American Explorers appeals to me. The Federation is a unique program for youth ages 6 to 17. Through weekly meetings, social service outings, seasonal wilderness camps and international trips, our youth are able to learn about themselves, each other and explore the world around them. It is a way to get out into nature and enjoy some technology-free fun with youthful exuberance. Very freeing indeed!
